history and inspiration.

The Hand Embroidery Company's first-ever store dated back to the 1950s, in South Bombay. Back then, under the name of R D Zari Emporium, The Hand Embroidery Company was said to retail only the best saris from all over the country. The founding brothers drew many loyal customers due to his benevolent nature. R D Zari slowly and famously earned its place in the market as a store with supreme quality and services.

It was then in the year 1980, that Suraj’s father decided to take his passion and experience toward something more inspirational. After all, Suraj had spent many years of his childhood watching his father dealing with an opulent variety of garments. In time, he decided to take his in-depth knowledge of material and become a creator of hand embroidered garments.

Ever since then, the company took on a new face and its new name: That of Suraj Panjabi and The Hand Embroidery Company. Starting as a beading factory with only 30 artists under its umbrella, today The Hand Embroidery Company supplies exclusively to some of the best fashion houses in the world!

hand embroidery!
shout-out from
T.H.E Co. Founder

Hello, Everyone!

Welcome to The Hand Embroidery Company’s official website!

Like the name speaks for itself, T.H.E. Co. takes up everything embroidery. The present mission is to support the one-of-a-kind couture creation, to having no minimum order quantities, to achieving huge production orders in with superior quality. In the near future, while fashion embroidery will still be what T.H.E Co. does best, what we envision ourselves expanding into is larger than we can let on right now! But be rest assured, we’re going to be everything “Hand-made” and what fashion designers would look for – globally!

As I always say – and do, we like to take the responsibility of executing a design that hasn’t been done before or, could be ahead of its times in terms of fashion trends – without having the designer take a risk. We understand that it’s the designer’s reputation at stake and would only support them to grow further in the global market.

Personally, I have always enjoyed the trust my clients and customers have placed in me. Most fashion designers wouldn’t want to reveal their supplier information nor would they allow the supplier to take credit. I feel trusted when all my clients know that I am willfully against taking any credit from their customers for the work I do on my clients’/designers’ collections. I am their most trusted manufacturing house, and that is how it will be for those who know me and wish to work with T.H.E. Co.

My vision as CEO is to be able to advise my client on ways and methods that are cost-effective, like mixing materials or playing around with the price. The catch is to be on the same wavelength as my client on their collection so that we can combine our efforts in executing a unique piece and not making art for the sake of making art. At T.H.E.Co., what my clients envision is magnificently transformed into reality, and even better. Having built all services in-house, I often emphasize that I want my clients to feel T.H.E Co. is always on the same page in terms of their mission on every order. I enjoy the scope of creative endeavors that T.H.E Co. brings to my table, and I protect those aspirations with honest business practices as they are and as they will continue to be.

Regards,
Suraj Panjabi

Some of the embroidery threads that this company utilizes to create its products and create unique designs are:

Stranded cotton:

This type of thread is mostly used while cross-stitching on various fabric counts. It can be also used in freestyle embroidery, canvas work as well as other forms of embroidery. The stranded cotton is known to deliver good coverage on the fabric where it has been applied.

Soft cotton:

A soft cotton thread is something impossible to split. Applicable for canvas work or bold style embroidery designs when stitched onto medium heavyweight fabric.

Perle cotton:

This type of cotton thread is produced in different weights for embroidering (the most demanded ones are #5 and #8). #5 is the thickest and can be used for Hardanger, free-style embroidery, or cross stitch.

Wool:

There are two types of wool available in the market. They are thicker (tapisserie or tapestry) or thinner (crewel). Tapestry wool is mainly applicable while doing canvas work to cover the canvas and that too evenly. But, the crewel wool can be used as surface thread for Jacobean embroidery.

Silk threads:

These types of expensive threads are used for goldwork.

Hand embroidery for fashion designers:

Embroidery in the fashion industry is evolving every single day and making its position stronger as well. Though it took a back seat for a little while but made a huge comeback in the year 2017 and since then, there is no turning back. The fashion designers are also big fans of embroidery and are, therefore, utilizing it in form of patches on denim jackets as well as floral-inspired designs on jeans to intricate patterns flowing on dresses. Embroidery is considered to be an extremely versatile craft that can be explored in multiple fashion horizons, giving enough scope to fashion designers to showcase their creativity and talent.

The greatest strength of the Hand Embroidery Company is working efficiently on the client’s customized orders. Moreover, they also cater to international fashion industries, fashion designers, boutiques as well as manufacturing companies and are one of the international exporters of hand embroidery in India. They believe in the application of unique chain and needle stitch techniques using varied raw materials like sequins, glass beads, beads, bugle beads, rhinestones, metallic threads, rayon threads, crystal pearls, and any other material according to the demand of the client. Base fabrics that are used include tulle/net, silks, chiffon, organza, linen, velvet, leather, suede, or any other choice of the client.
